The Liberty-Bealeton High School girls basketball team won its third straight Evergreen District tournament championship Thursday in a 53-17 rout of visiting Warren County.
The victory also earned the Eagles (22-1) the No. 1 seed in next week’s Region-II, Division 3 tournament. Liberty will host No. 8 Brentsville Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
The Eagles’ lead was just 16-9 at halftime Thursday, but Liberty outscored Warren County 37-8 in the second half, and held the visitors to two points in the third quarter.
Senior Liz Wood led the Eagles with 20 points, nine rebounds, six steals and four assists. Bri Croushorn added a double-double, 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Point guard Aubri Crummett finished with four points, five assists and four steals, while junior Erin Morant added five points and six rebounds.
The defending Group-AA, Division 4 state champions also won their third straight Evergreen District regular season title, and Thursday’s tournament championship came just days after Eagles’ head coach Lauren Milburn recorded her 100th career victory in a 56-31 rout of Fauguier County rival Kettle Run.
